DEFENDAMOS AL PADRE LUIS BARRIOS Y A GEOFF MILLARD!

RETENGAMOS EL DERECHO A PROTESTAR!

El Padre Luís Barrios y el veterano de la Guerra en Iraq Geoff Millar fueron arrestados el 19 de Septiembre junto a 14 otras personas frente del edificio de las Naciones Unidas mientras George W. Bush hablaba. Ell@s llegaron con un mensaje comun:

"Venimos a las Naciones Unidas a participar en desobediencia civil pacífica. Demandamos el fin inmediato de la guerra en Irak. Nos oponemos a cualquier ataque contra Irán. Declaramos al mundo que el Presidente George W. Bush ha sido encontrado culpable de crímenes contra la humanidad. Y que el no nos representa.

Cuando el grupo organizado por la Comisión de Crímenes de Bush desempacaron los cartelones la policía sujeto al Padre Barrios y lo tiraron al suelo. Y luego lo acusaron de asaltar un policía (una felonía), de resistir el arresto, y de conducta desordenada.

Geoff Millard fue golpeado por policías mientras estuvo esposado. Y luego ellos alegaron que el estaba "resistiendo" y lo acusaron de resistir el arresto. Los cargos por conducta desordenada contra los demás arrestados fueron retirados.

Estas son algunas de las cosas que puedes hacer para defender al Padre Barrios y a Geoff Millard:

Llenemos el salón de la corte durante la aparición del Padre Barrios en la corte el 23 de enero de 2007 en el 100 Centre Street, Part C. llegue a las 8:30 am. El 16 de Enero, 2007 llenemos de nuevo el salón de la corte por Geoff Millard en la misma dirección, Part B.

Es importante que todøs defendamos al Padre Barrios, el cual tiene un largo historial de apoyo a las luchas populares, y Geoff Millar, quien es un miembro activo de Veterano Contra la Guerra de Iraq  y ha tomado parte en el documental  Truthout.org. Los dos son inocentes. Debemos retener el derecho a protestar. A ningún presidente debe permitírsele prohibir protestas durante sus apariciones públicas. Rechazamos la intimidación y no nos mantendremos en silencio ante los crímenes contra la humanidad.

UPHOLD THE RIGHT TO PROTEST!

Fr. Luis Barrios and Iraq vet Geoff Millard were arrested on September 19 along with 14 others outside the United Nations as George W. Bush was speaking. They had come with this common message:

"We have come to the United Nations today to engage in non-violent civil disobedience.  We demand the war on Iraq end immediately.  We oppose any attack on Iran.  We declare to the world that President George W. Bush has been found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  He does not speak for us."

When the group organized by the Bush Crimes Commission unfurled their signs, police grabbed Fr. Barrios first and forced him to the ground. He was subsequently charged with assaulting a police officer (a felony), resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Geoff Millard was knocked over by police while hand-cuffed. They then declared that he was "resistant" and he was charged with resisting arrest. All the others arrested had the charges of disorderly conduct against them dropped.

It is important that everyone come to the defense of Fr. Barrios, because of his long history of support for the struggles of the people, and Geoff Millard, who is an activist member of the Iraq Veterans Against the War and has been featured on Truthout.org. Both are innocent. We must uphold the right of the people to protest. No president should be allowed to deny protest around their public appearances. We will not be cowed into remaining silent in the face of crimes against humanity.

Here is what you can do to defend Fr. Barrios and Geoff Millard:

Fill the courtroom at Fr. Barrios's court appearance, January 23, 2007 at 100 Centre Street, Part C. Be there before 8:30 am. On January 16, 2007 fill the courtroom for Geoff Millard at the same address, Part B.
