NATIONALISM AND CANARIAN NATION

By Antonio Cubillo Ferreira *

I have the impression that many of the people that ultimately are writing in this independent newspaper that so much is doing for Canary Islands and their sovereignty mainly do not have the things clear with respect to our country and to our future Nation.  One must keep in mind that the Nation is a common project of an ethnic group oriented towards a free future as we are we.  In Canary Islands an inheriting ethnic group of the African people exists since about 2,500 years. All the efforts of the colonialism for more than six centuries have not been able to put an end to her, in spite of the continuous mestization and of the imported colonial structures.  The modern theories of the genetic studies on Canary Islands show the persistence of the mitochondrial haploids of the DNA of the guanches mothers subsisting in the islands and that guarantee that the ancestral ethnic group is going to be part, among others, of the character of the next Nation in gestation, that soon will be born to incorporate us to the free nations of the world, inside the continental context that corresponds us that is Africa and not Europe, without having to depend on any metropolis.

We must have the courage to proclaim these concepts every day to mark our differentiated personality. A person can not proclaim that is nationalist when he does not know which is the concept of Nation.  Because that is to deceive the People and the exterior and interior public opinion. From years ago in the so-called Canarian Autonomic Parliament a group that is said nationalist, C.C., never has clarified this, and now, recently they are told European and they go everywhere proclaiming  its europeism. It finally disqualifies them to the canarian public opinion.

The Canarian People, while Nation, should not forget that the word nation etymologically comes from the latin, natio (shared origin), that comes from the root of the verb nascor (to born).  The ones that are told nationalist should keep in mind that is referring to a future nation, African of course, that is going to leave of be an European colony to be become a new State-Nation.  The terms cannot be confused: put us in the distant Europe, say that we are Spaniards, look for be what never will be able to be, to be a European People, and other witty remarks by the style, contrary to the geography and to the history.

All these factors should keep in mind of the parties and groups who say nationalist if they want to have future in this colony.  Do not forget neither that look to Madrid is wanting to remain a colony, for which, if they want to have future, they should think about the solutions and international formalities that proposed for years the Committee of Decolonization of the United Nations on application of the Resolution 1514 (XV), of 1960, and by which the European colonies have freed themselves.  Brussels even will agree to this solution since Canary Islands is an African colonized territory, to which him is given the manufactured title of Outermost Region; all the problem is to present it and to carry always, under the arm, a copy of the solution for our future, the Canarian Federal Republic, whose draft was created by the Pro-independence party Canarian National Congress (CNC), published in this newspaper between September 2007 and March 2008, and copy of which is placed already in the United Nations.

Another thing more than we should indicate well to our People is that Morocco is not our enemy. Morocco is a neighboring country as Mauritania or Senegal. Our enemy are not these countries, our enemy is the Spanish monarchy of July 18, that occupies us since six centuries ago, what means that our enemy is inside our house as well as its collaborators and that nobody goes us to invade now. We are invaded since the fifteenth century by the old European metropolis. It is to Spain to whom him should be obliged to be sat down to the table where alone there be three parts, the republican representation of Canary Islands, legally constituted by the supporters of independence appointed, according to the draft of our Constitution, the representation of the IV Commission of the United Nations of the Committee of the 27 on the Decolonization and the official representation of the Spanish government, properly authorized, all it in New York, in the headquarters of the United Nations.
